Chosen - High School Youth
"Chosen" is the name our High School students have selected for themselves:
"But you are a CHOSEN people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God,
that you may declare the praises of him who called you ou of darkness into his wonderful light."
(1 Peter 2:9)
During the school year, Chosen meets on Sunday evenings from 6:30 to 8 p.m. You'll want to check the calendar for actual dates and times--and be aware that special events may cause changes--but here's the basic monthly schedule:
The 1st Sunday of every month is dedicated to getting to know one another. We call it "Homebase Hangout" and we have dinner and fun! The location will vary from month to month as this is a night hosted by an individual family.
The 2nd Sunday is for Bible study in the youth room.
The 3rd Sunday is dedicated to serving the church or our community.
The 4th Sunday is a time for youth worship.
Watch the monthly youth newsletter, Holy Cross Youth Ministries, for times and places.
Our May 2012 Schedule:
Sunday, May 6, 6:30-8 p.m.: Seis De Mayo Homebase Hangout. So we missed Cinco de Mayo by a day but don’t miss Seis De Mayo at the Sundseth home. Chosen—Sr. High—Homebase Hangout will be at Eric & Debbie Sundseth’s house, 8608 E. Woodland Park Dr., Spokane, WA 99217. This is an informal event with dinner, devotion, games and fun and is a great time to build Christian relationships and have fun in Christ with other youth in the church. Bring a friend. Questions? Want directions? Call Debbie at 475-4678.
Sunday, May 13: No youth group tonight so you can stay home and appreciate your mother. How will you do that this year? Flowers? Make dinner? Do the dishes without being asked? Just make sure you don’t forget to give her a hug and tell her how valuable she is to you!
Sunday, May 20, 6:30-8 p.m.: Gutter Sunday and Worsip: Jr. & Sr. High, come build a monster sundae, gutter style. We’re looking at a 10-foot-long pile of ice cream and toppings—followed with praise and a word from God. We hope too that Jeremy will be here by then and it will be your chance to meet him.
Sunday, May 27: No youth group--enjoy the 3-day Memorial Day weekend and be sure to thank a Vet or two for his or her service!
Sunday Morning Bible Class at 9:30 a.m.:
“Psalms of the Heart.” Elisa Romaneschi will lead the youth in study of the psalms as God’s gift to our prayer life. You’ll be surprised how many relevant everyday life situations are found in this prayer book of the scriptures.
Homework Club
When you leave school and begin your homework, are you a bit lost or confused? Does the work seem overwhelming, especially in Math or Science? Then this is just for you! On Mondays, between 4 and 6:30 p.m. Don and Sarah Comi offer an open tutoring time on a drop-in basis as a ministry both to the congregation and to the wider student community. The focus is on math and science from Don and on elementary education from Sarah. In order to give them time to help you, please arrive between 4 and 6 p.m. Have friends who need help too? Bring them along! Don't need help but just want a quite place to hang and do your homework? That's okay too! Come join us!
Homework Club will begin its summer hiatus on May 15. See you in the fall!
Youth Handchime Choir
Our youth handchime choir meets weekly on Tuesdays from 6:15 to 7 p.m. for practice. Students in grades 2 through 12 are invited to join this choir. It's OK if you don't know how to read music; the director will teach you. The group will play mostly on holidays. Questions? Speak with Heather Selset.
