Mission Support

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them
in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
(Matthew 28:19)

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat,
I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,
I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison
and you came to visit me.  ...
Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.
(Matthew 25:35-36, 40)

Heeding the words of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Holy Cross members are actively involved in mission work--locally, nationally, and globally.

Locally, members participate each summer in a partnership between Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and Habitat for Humanity to construct affordable housing in the Spokane area.  Each month the youth prepare and serve a meal to Spokane's homeless teens at CrossWalk.  Donations have been made to  Christ Kitchen, the Mission Community Outreach Center, a ministry to Burmese refugees and various organizations that provide assistance to families.  Furniture, clothing, and household goods are regularly solicited from members to help people who need a new start while sacks of groceries are frequently given out through the church office.  Several times a year the women of Holy Cross collect clothing, school supplies, baby items, and personal care products for both local and national ministries.  At Christmas, Holy Cross provided gifts to many area families in need.  Even our preschool students hold a Trike-A-Thon each spring for St. Jude's Hospital and donate their chapel offerings to local organizations that support children.

On a national level, the congregation provides ongoing support to two seminary students and made donations in 2010 to organization such as Lutheran Community Services, Lutherans for Life, and the Salvation Army.  Our youth have provided both labor and assistance with Bible School to a Native American community in Muddy Cluster, Montana.

Internationally, members of Holy Cross through the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod help to support missionaries serving in the Dominican Republic, Asia, and Central America. Other organizations receiving help from Holy Cross in 2010 are LCMS World Relief and Human Care, Heifer International, and Lutheran Bible Translators.

In April 2011, a group of members will travel to the Dominican Republic to provide assistance in the completion of a new church building.  Learn more about their trip here.
