Feeding 5,000

On October 21-22 Holy Cross will team with Spokane area churches to pack meals for Feed My Starving Children, a Christian nonprofit that ships meals to more than 70 countries, all paid for and packaged by volunteers.

We encourage you to volunteer for one or more of the three 2-hour Saturday sessions.  Our Holy Cross youth, elementary through high school, will participate in Friday’s youth session, including raising the donations necessary to fund one packing station.  Each packing session requires 160 volunteers. Signup begins at www.fmsc.org/mobilepack/events six weeks prior to October 21.

The goal that weekend is to pack 120,000 meals so we’re also working to raise funds to pay for those meals. At just 22 cents each, we hope to raise the $26,400 needed from individuals and local congregations.

At Holy Cross we’re using a “Feed 5,000 Challenge.” Here’s how it works:  Randomly draw an envelope from the Feed My Starving Children basket in the church narthex. Each envelope contains a written amount, $1 to $47. If the envelope you draw contains “$1,” then donate $1; if it’s “$17,” then donate $17, etc. Place your donation corresponding to that amount (or more, if you wish), in the envelope, and place the envelope on the offering plate (please make checks payable to Holy Cross with FMSC on the memo line). By the way, it’s OK to take more than one envelope!

When all the envelopes are returned, we’ll have provided 5,000 meals!  Wow!  But … that doesn’t mean we’re done.  We’ll start with a new set of envelopes to see how many 5,000s we can feed before October’s event.  Envelopes are now in the narthex!
